THIS EVENT IS NOW IN THE PAST. FOR MORE GREAT THINGS TO DO AND SEE IN AND AROUND BRISBANE, PLEASE HEAD TO OUR WHAT'S ON PAGE HERE

The Gifting Tree is a free hands-on activity at QAGOMA Children's Art Centre, bringing together the work of three contemporary Indian artists - Sonia Chitrakar, Archana Kumari and Kamta Tahed, until October 17, 2021.

Using bright colours, patterns and storytelling, each artist has created a painting or drawing that references the importance of trees in supporting life.

The Gifting Tree refers to a divine, life-giving tree otherwise known as Kalpavriksha, which appears in many religions and stories throughout India.

Taking inspiration from the artists through two hands-on activities, children are encouraged to reflect on their own experiences of trees.

Kids can draw a picture about the importance of planting trees and add their creation to a cumulative display in the exhibition space. They can also make a drawing of a problem-solving, fantasy tree.

Good to know - There will be a special low sensory event incorporating The Gifting Tree and European Masterpieces from the Met on Tuesday, September 21, from 8.30am-10am.

Need to know - During the school holidays, ‘European Masterpieces’ will be opening at the special time of 9.30am to welcome additional visitors to the exhibition.
