Banana Benders Backpackers

Petrie Terrace

A relaxed subtropical vibe permeates this popular hostel, located on Petrie Terrace behind a yellow stucco wall dripping with bougainvillea.

Features include a large wooden deck to hang out and enjoy the spectacular Queensland sunsets over the distant Walter Taylor mountain range, a stainless steel commercial kitchen and clean dorm rooms – 6 bed from $26/person.

For those tired of other travellers’ stories and smells, BB also offers small self-contained ‘flats’ with their own kitchenette and bathroom, the catch being a minimum stay at $370/week for 2 weeks or $300/wk for 4 weeks.

Note that with no parking provided, the nearby narrow historical streets with parking limit times are the only option. And while it is not on top of the city centre, the city’s showcase subtropical space the Roma St Parklands are less than a 15 mins walk. Take the stairway shortcut via the historical precinct The Barracks and the city is also less than 15 mins walk away.
