Pepper Pot Cafe
Annerley
PEPPER POT CAFE HAS BEEN REPLACED BY KOTTU HUT & AWAITS A NEW REVIEW.
Pepper Pot Cafe is a hidden gem of a budget Sri Lankan eatery occupying an old corner store in Annerley.
Here in the no-frills dining space you can enjoy the authentic tastes of Sri Lankan cuisine, from street snacks to meals, mostly for well under $20.
Visitors to the Boundary Street Markets at West End and Wandering Cooks in South Brisbane may remember the owners and their delicious food from their days running Sri Lankan food stalls before branching into their own cafe in late 2019.
Street snacks, which range in price from just $1-$3 include Urid Dhal Vada (like a chickpea donut), yellow split pea vada, veggie samosas and handmade chicken, fish or veggie rolls.
For mains, there's a range of Hopper's meals (plain, egg, cheese and sweet or multi-combos of these) and String Hoppers (with vege, lamb or chicken curry and sambal), or Dosa Meals of plain, egg or ghee dosa with samba and sambol.
Rotti, a Sri Lankan staple, is available as a Rotti Meal, including 2 plai rotti with chicken, lamb or goat currry and cheese, cheese & garlic or garlic rotti with chicken curry. There's also a selection of Kothu Rotti (vegan, egg, chicken, lamb, fish, goat meat, and egg, lamb or chicken & cheese).
There's also Rice & Curry Meals (veggie, chicken or lamb) with rice and pappadum. And for something sweet there is the traditional Sri Lankan classic watalapan (cardamon spiced coconut custard) or ice-cream with fruit salad, custard or jelly.
Drinks - wise there's tea of coffee, juices and soft drinks. BYO wine or beer.
Need to know - Takeaway is available as is Uber Eats.
