Governors Chair Lookout
Scenic Rim
Governors Chair is a spectacular lookout that is a must-do for visitors to the Scenic Rim.
Just one and a half hours drive from Brisbane, the short walk to the lookout provides amazing views over the Fassifern Valley.
Follow Lake Moogerah Rd then turn off onto Spicers Gap Road and drive right to the end to the carpark. Here you’ll find the start of the walking track to Governor Chair.
The walk is an easy 300m return walk but it does have steps so isn’t suitable for wheelchairs or prams.
The path very quickly leads to the top of a cliff where the lookout is, so parents need to supervise children closely.
The large rock at the top of the cliff that forms the lookout was named Governors Chair after the Governor who would travel from Brisbane long ago to enjoy the magnificent view.
Tip - Take torches and go to the lookout before dawn to watch the red glow of first light dissipate the night sky as the sun peeps over the mountains.
Nice to know - Consider camping at nearby Spicers Gap campground which is a great base and is really peaceful and quiet. Facilities include toilets and picnic tables. This campground isn’t suitable for caravans as you can’t drive into the sites.
Need to know – Spicers Gap Road is a steep gravel road – not recommended for 2WD in wet conditions.
