The Survey Co

Brisbane

THE SURVEY CO HAS CLOSED IN EARLY 2018.

Brisbane's oldest laneway is home to The Survey Co, the city's most atmospheric restaurant and bar, whose name pays homage to the city's first short-lived surveyor Charles Burnett. The Survey Co is a gorgeous rabbit warren of cosily rustic dimly lit rooms with exposed brick walls, whose bar section overlooks the lane via glass windows while the restaurant wraps itself around the open kitchen with windows and doors onto tiny European style courtyards.

The well-priced menu is a match for the stunning décor, with beautifully executed dishes such as veal carpaccio with beets, garlic and sorrel and red claw yabby (Qld) with heirloom tomato in a bisque vinaigrette for entrée while mains include hearty boullabaise, eye fillet with Bearnaise sauce and duck orange with watercress.

Meanwhile on the luscious dessert menu lavender parfait, dark chocolate tart and chestnut, orange and tarragon cannoli come recommended.

But The Survey Co is not just about dinner – it makes for a brilliant lunchtime retreat for a light meal under $20, with options such as pulled pork baguette, pea and pancetta risotto or Shooters sandwich alongside the a la carte menu.

Otherwise drop in to the front bar for some delish tapas style bar food such as sand crab filos or warmed olives to have with a single malt, glass of varietal wine, top shelf spirit, beer, digestif or house cocktail such as the signature Laneway Lemonade.

Find The Survey Co on the left (almost at the rear of Chifley on Lennon's) if coming from George St and on the right about two thirds of the way up if coming from Albert St.
