127 Bar Bistro
Brisbane
127 BAR & BISTRO HAS PERMANENTLY CLOSED IN 2018.
127 Bar & Bistro is a fairly recent addition to inner-city drinking and dining but is already attracting large appreciative crowds for Friday afternoon tapas.
The breakfasts are also popular on any day, with guests from the above 144-room Midtown Brisbane Apartment Hotel at 127 Charlotte Street, popping down for the goodies on offer, including Giancarlo Signature Blend coffee. The Quinoa Granola with rhubarb compote, strawberry, and vanilla yoghurt is a healthy favourite.
Taking advantage of the central location, 127 Bar & Bistro serves breakfast, lunch and dinner as well as offering a large assortment of café takeaway items. And then there’s the amply stocked bar, with extensive wine list, spirits and cocktails aplenty. Try the delicious and warming Late Night Daiquiri (Ardbeg, Aperol, Metusalem Rum, spiced honey).
Head chef, Travis Crane, hails from Boucher French Bistro in Graceville. Sometimes experimental - he created a four-metre long molten chocolate forest for the restaurant’s launch – Travis knows how to tantalise the tastebuds of discerning foodies.
Small plates include the winning signature dish of Octopus, almond gazpacho, chorizo and grapes – manager Tjardo Hilberts’ favourite, which he recommends pairing with Moet & Chandon Grand Vintage 2004. Or how about the crispy but delicate Crumbed Pork Tail with garlic custard and rhubarb, or Duck Liver Parfait with fig and brioche. Large plates include Confit Duck, pumpkin puree, roast beets, and goats cheese; and Seared Kangaroo Fillet with smoked eggplant, spring onion, olive, and charred labna.
The restaurant area is of a minimalist design with imported Italian bentwood chairs with high backs for comfort, plus an 18-seater communal table for groups (usually booked out on those busy Friday arvos) or to suit hotel guests on their own who are encouraged to meet others while in town.
