The Mill On Constance

Fortitude Valley

THE MILL ON CONSTANCE HAS PERMANENTLY CLOSED.

The Mill on Constance is a back street Fortitude Valley bar steeped in ghosts and history, occupying one floor of a gothic brick tower that was once a flour mill and World War II base for US soldiers.

The imposing building stands sentry just over the railway bridge in the trendy neighbourhood of the Valley.

The three Irish owners have worked their magic on the inside, hand-building the bar, tables and wall panels and scattering Chesterfield couches and some old relics from the mill in the mix. An imposing mediaeval style light fitting from the light company that shares the building hangs over the staircase and a giant metal velociraptor by a sculptor friend presides over the entrance.

If the walls of the old mill bar (once the Old Mill Barracks)  could talk they’d have a lot to say and they did: for when the ground floor which is home to The Mill on Constance bar was being renovated by past tenants, a wall was removed to reveal panels that had pencil notes by the soldiers who had been based there. They’ve now been removed and the bar owners plan on getting them displayed.

History aside, The Mill on Constance is the perfect casual bar to enjoy Australian spirits, beer or glass of wine at pub prices. The beer menu is extensive, with four rotating craft beer taps on tap and a mix of craft and standard beers including Indian Pale Ale, Pale Ale, Pilsener and Porters.

Like the beer, wines come by the glass at $5 and the house cocktails - Pimms Punch, The Ginger Sailor and The Fruity Wench come in cute little jugs with retro straws.
