Mavis Ngallametta: Show Me the Way to Go Home
Virtual Tour
Within days of opening Mavis Ngallametta: Show Me the Way to Go Home, a major exhibition honouring the life and work of the late Aurukun artist Mavis Ngallametta (1944–2019), the Queensland Art Gallery was forced to close due to COVID-19 restrictions.
Now virtual visitors can explore this fascinating exhibition, the first extensive survey of Ngallametta’s work featuring more than 40 paintings, on a walk-through with Katina Davidson, Curator of Indigenous Art, QAGOMA, and co-curator of the Mavis Ngallametta exhibition.
The exhibition includes intricate and animated paintings by the accomplished artist, bringing together major works from her Pamp/Swamp, Kendall River, Wutan, Ikalath, Yalgamunken, intertidal estuary and powerful bushfire series for the first time.
Online visitors can gain greater insight into life on Mavis Ngallametta’s country with a series of videos exploring the Indigenous artist's work here.
