The American Bookstore has moved to Taringa from its longtime Brisbane city digs.
This homey bookshop lies off the beaten track both geographically and in the books it stocks. Started by an American back in 1957, since its sale a couple of years later to an Australian couple it has remained in that family ever since.
Along with its name and locatin little about the shop has changed, including the stocking of hard to get imports and the specializing in ordering obscure titles that the chains won’t touch with a barge pole.
In house there’s an emphasis on the educational, crossing all genres from the arts, humanities, health, science and the environment as well as a small but top shelf not-your-average range of fiction.
Here can also be found the best of readers from very young to young adults, with a sizable complement of Scholastic books.
