Forte School Of Music

Toowong

The one thing you're never too old or too young to start learning is music and this is the driving philosophy behind Brisbane's unique and highly successful Forte School of Music

Since its inception in 1994, Forte has been churning out all manner and ages of budding musos while imparting knowledge and a love of music to those who've passed through its doors at its headquarters at Toowong (and in recent years its other school in Coorparoo).

The school itself is a colourful world of music upstairs in a Toowong commercial block, with a mix of large glass-walled classrooms (where parents can sit in and observe) and smaller private rooms named after composers.

With a combination of classes (for younger ones) and private lessons, learning at Forte is especially tailored to keep up the fun element whilst achieving goals. Indeed during the early years this is the place where children learn music without realizing they're learning it. And in latter years there's lots of inbuilt rewards programmes to keep the practice incentive going.

Starting with babies classes (also a fun way to meet other mums) through toddlerdom up to kindergarten/Prep, in the early years Forte uses the brilliant developmental Jungle Music programme devised by Forte's founders, which children absolutely love. Basically they get to play a whole range of tiny colourful percussion instruments, learn rhythm, movement and group work and have a ball doing so and each class comes with a CD to play at home.

By the time they are 4 they have started basic keyboard tunes (music to any parent's ears) and then have the option of continuing with keyboard classes until aged 8, taking private lessons or taking up another instrument.

And of course you don't have to be a child to learn at Forte, there are adult classes in various instruments too.

Need to know: For parents/carers with younger children in tow, there's a well-equipped playroom compete with TV onsite and just outside free tea & coffee making facilities.

Parking is free and plentiful, in designated spots under the building and out front in the open.

Nice to know: All enrolments start with a FREE no-obligation lesson. And once enrolled children can miss up to 2 classes per term (with notice) and participate in 2 make-up classes.
