Australia Day at South Bank

Beautiful South Bank is the place to be this Australia Day for an epic, free celebration for all ages, commencing at 1pm with live music at River Quay and ending with a spectacular fireworks show at 7.30pm.

More than 40,000 people are expected at this mammoth family-friendly event, with the whole of South Bank Parklands alcohol-free for the occasion.

The live music part of the Australia Day celebrations - Australia Day on the Green - is being held at River Quay from 1-5.30pm. Artists who will be appearing this year include Birdman Randy and The Ivory Street Preachers along with special guest DJs

Get in early to nab your spot for this colourful spectacular, with the best viewing spots being Clem Jones Promenade, Cultural Forecourt and River Quay.

This year's fireworks, which take three months to design and prepare, will be launched from 5 barges (up from last year's 3 barges) located between the Victoria and Goodwill Bridges and will feature more than 25,000 individual pyrotechnic effects.

For the first time, the display will feature six pyrotechnic jet ski performers, who will launch fireworks while they perform in front of the promenade.

And with a soundtrack of all-Australian music and featuring gold and green colours, the fireworks will start at 7.30pm and last for 10 minutes.

South Bank's restaurants and bars will be open for business as usual for sustenance on the day and attendees are also welcome to bring their own picnic. Please note that whilst South Bank's restaurants are trading as per normal in terms of the service of food & beverages, no alcoholic drinks are to be brought in as South Bank Parklands is an alcohol-free zone for the occasion

Public transport is a great way to get to and from the Australia Day celebrations. To plan your trip, go to the Translink website.

South Bank’s car park will be open per usual during the event. For details on parking at South Bank, go to
