Poppy’s Chocolate is like Beenleigh’s very own Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory found off the beaten track in a light industrial outpost.
From the outside Poppy’s Chocolate looks like a standard factory but step inside the entrance door to find an impressive retail outlet packed with delicious couverture chocolate delights and a window onto the chocolate-making world.
Here, at a far better value price than you’ll find at inner city chocolate outlets or in retail stores, can be found all manner of creations, from individual flavoured chocolates behind the counter, to gift boxes and chocolate sculptures such as hand bags and champagne bottles.
From a large window in the outlet store shoppers can watch the freshly made chocolates being packed and, for the curious, an interesting behind-the-scenes chocolate-making tour is available on weekdays*.
Whether or not you do the tour it’s impossible to leave empty-handed after a visit to Poppy’s. Here’s the place to snaffle up novelty chocolate gifts (the largest range in Australia) for choc-loving relatives and friends, with everything from chocolate tool boxes, to dogs, cats and horses, cellos, violins, mobile phones and tennis sets and, for overseas visitors, the chocolate Aussie surfer dude with white chocolate hair.
And if not in the market for gifts, get tempted by the great value and amazing variety of chocolate available, including Rocky Road, chocolate pops, Hallowe’en pumpkins, Easter eggs, and individual chocolates with local fillings such as Beenleigh rum and macadamia nuts.
From their humble abode Poppy’s Chocolates are distributed to the likes of Customs House and the Treasury Hotel and Casino as well as theme parks, Australia Zoo, many retail shops.
Nice to know – If here to snaffle up a gift, there’s even wrapping paper and gift cards for sale in the shop.
Need to know – There’s no need to book if just coming for a visit (unless in a group of 10+ in which case it is advisable).
*If wanting a chocolate tour (approx. 24 mins) these are scheduled for 11am and 2pm Mon-Thursday and require a minimum of 10. The Choc’n’Chat Tour includes a pre-tour chat, a tour of the chocolate-making facilities, question time and a goodie bag to take home. Cost at time of writing in April 2016 was $9pp.
