Midnight Blue Restaurant
Fine dining can be found in Springwood at Midnight Blue, which offers Italian fare with a French twist.
With Italian born, French trained, Michelin starred chef Maria B Mura on board, Midnight Blue is fine dining at its best without the price tag. Located beside Springwood police station on the Pacific Highway, the restaurant's simple yet stylish decor - polished floorboards, dark timber tables with white linen and original artwork (created by the multi-talented chef ) - belies the quality of the food which looks as good as it tastes.
Start with Italian classics like garlic bread and bruschetta or try walnut bread served with red pesto rimmed with extra virgin olive oil and aged balsamic vinegar, antipasto platter (selection of Italian cured meats and cheeses, olives, peppers and eggplant served with freshly baked breads) or the recommended coquilles Saint Jacques - a nest of leek angel hair, lightly pan fried king scallops and red peppercorns flambéed in brandy.
Mains range from pasta (fettuccini pesto, spaghetti carbonara, rigantoni all'arrabbiata and penne al salmone) and pizza (margherita, pepperoni or boscaiolo - Sardinian sausage and garlic mushroom) to risotto. The extensive menu offers plenty of vegetarian options alongside seafood (like spaghetti scoglio with mussels, tiger prawns, baby octopus, calamari and scallops in tangy napoletana sauce) and meat dishes - pork fillet parmigiana, filet mignon with peppercorns in creamy cognac sauce and goat tenderloins pan braised with mushroom Marsala glaze (quickly becoming a favourite among diners).
Do save room for the must-try traditional tiramisu, creme brulee, cake of the day or spiced poached pears with gingerbread crumbs and cinnamon ice-cream.
*Need to know: Midnight Blue is family-friendly. Children can order any dish from the menu at half price. The restaurant has just introduced TGIF happy hour - every Friday from 4:30-5:30 including free snacks.
