Marlena's Island Cuisine
Slacks Creek
MARLENA'S ISLAND CUISINE HAS CLOSED.
Marlena’s Island Cuisine, aka the ‘Flowers of Polynesia Café’ is a quaint hole-in-the wall eatery tucked away in a multicultural Slacks Creek shopping centre.
Adorned with colourful artefacts and ukuleles, this spotlessly clean little place serves hard-to-find traditional foods from the islands of the pacific, especially the Cook Islands.
A bain marie contains hot dishes such as Samoan Chop Suey, Curry Goat and Hangi (on weekends), Brisket (boil- up with veges) and Rukau (a Cook Island special of cooked taro leaves with taro).
Cold dishes include Raw Fish (snapper/trevally with veges, coconut cream and herbs) and the famous Cook Islands ‘Mainaise’ Potato Salad of potatoes, beetroot, veges, onion and egg dressing.
For something sweet there’s Pineapple Pie (pineapple, custard and cream) or Trifle, Cook Island Donuts, Coconut Rolls and Poke (a Cook Islands specialty - cooked bananas with coconut cream).
Drinks-wise, Marlena’s offers Cherry Beans coffee and milkshakes or soft drinks.
Need to know - While there are a couple of tables and chairs onsite, Marlena’s Island Cuisine is more of a take away.Look out for the big blue Flowers of Polynesia sign in the shopping strip.
