Junk Boat, located along South Bank's Little Stanley Street, will blow your taste buds away with a fresh take on traditional Asian street food.
Where bubble tea is spiked and squid is dipped in coconut caramel, Junk Boat is a place where flavour meets adventure. Inspired by food from all over Asia, the dishes have been created with a bit of a Western twist; Gangnam fries anyone?
The décor is oriental inspired, with a decorative bamboo ceiling, drop lights and Asian prints on the walls. Diners can sit within one of the booths or alternatively on one of the round tables.
The menu is overflowing with delicious Asian dishes that not only taste great, but they look great too. Popular dishes include the Soft-Shell Crab Steamed Bao which is bao filled with crispy soft shell crab, chipotle, burnt lime Kewpie and pickled slaw. The Crispy Fried Gunpowder Chicken Ribs are definitely a must try, which are served with tamarind chutney, gunpowder salt and coriander yoghurt.
For something a little heavier, sink your teeth into the incredible tender Black Bean Marinated Beef, served with soba noodles, wakame, pickled ginger, goma and wafu dressing. Highly recommended is the Chicken Satay Rice Bowl, inclusive of marinated free range chicken, jasmine rice, satay sauce, spicy tomato and garlic relish with coriander and lime.
Pair your mains with a side of their delicious Green Papaya Salad or edamame, which is tossed through brown butter and their own Junk spice.
The restaurant is licensed so you can wash your feed down with an authentic Asian beer, wine, cider or a spirit. Soft drinks are also available. But the shining star on the drinks menu is their spiked bubble tea. Check the bar for the daily flavour and then choose whether you would like to spike your bubbles with vodka or gin.
Need to know: Limited paid street parking is available as well as nearby Secure parking facilities.
