Gnocchi Gnocchi Brothers

Paddington

Gnocchi Gnocchi Brothers, Australia’s very first dedicated Italian gnoccheria, can be found on Paddington’s Given Terrace.

The bright little shop/eatery, with a communal table inside and out and a counter packed with traditional Italian dolci, is the go-to for fresh gnocchi made in-house daily, with the option of takeaway or dine-in.

On the wall are black and white photos of the gnocchi-making process and hanging from the ceiling is the Gnocchi Gnocchi Brothers mascot, Puncherella, a puppet from La Commedia Italian puppet theatre, which was especially commissioned and made in an artist village near Rome.

The menu here, as per tradition, is short and sweet, with Starters and Sides of Deep Fried Mince-stuffed Olives, Thick Potato Chips with truffle salt and aioli or Fresh Mozzarella with tomato and basil caprese.

Fresh handmade Gnocchi dishes (all $12* including Ciabetta bread & parmesan cheese) come with a choice of sauces: the house signature Wild Mushroom & Truffle sauce, Fresh Prawns and Cherry Tomato sauce, Slow-cooked Bolognese sauce, Genovese style Pesto, Slow-cooked Duck Ragu or Spicy Cherry Tomato and Black Olive (all sauces are also made from scratch in-house).

And save room for dessert because there’s delicious house-made Italian Tiramisu, Sicilian Ricotta Cannoli or Vanilla Bean Panacotta.

La Cucina di Nonna

A salute to yesteryear can be found up Gnocchi Gnocchi Brothers laneway stairs - La Cucina di Nonna, Brisbane's quirkiest private function space. This upstairs dining room accommodating 8 people is a typical example of an untouched 1960s hitchen complete with the original cuboards, stove and even a newspaper article from 1965 stuck to the floor boards.

The Gnocchi Brothers have styled the room just the same as their Nonna would ....simple and warm with interesting artifacts and possessions from Italy...think hanging legs of prociuotto, magnum size Italian wine bottles and art pieces depicting the roaring 1920s years in Italy.

Truly a unique experience to be had...tip: Bring your own CDs as Nonna has left her CD player there for you to play your own tunes as you enjoy the gnocchi!!

Reservations required - asked for 'La Cucina di Nonna' room upstairs.

Need to know - For those who want to cook their own at home, vacu-packed bags of fresh gnocchi are available which serve 4-6.

Nice to know -  Gluten-free gnocchi is available at no extra cost.

*Prices correct at time of visiting.
