Mother Africa is an authentic Abyssinian restaurant serving traditional Ethiopian fare from a colourful shopfront in Tingalpa.
Perched on the corner of Wynnum Road and Boundary Street, you can’t miss this striking restaurant from the outside, while inside the décor is understated with tables covered with African fabrics filling the plain space.
The décor might be ordinary, but the food is anything but. As soon as you step inside Mother Africa, the amazing aromas of spices draw you in.
Open every day except Monday for lunch and dinner, all meals are gluten-free and include your choice of rice or injera (sour pancake).
Many dishes are vegetarian like doba (pumpkin and coconut milk), atikilt beyanetu (mixed vegetables cooked in black pepper, garlic and turmeric) and misser we’t (green lentils with fresh ginger and garlic).
Traditional Ethiopian meat dishes include zigini (red beef stew), doro t’ibs (fried chicken) and yeberie t’ibs (fried beef).
If you can’t decide, order the combination platter migeb beyanetu, with a little bit of everything.
