Hub Cafe Kitchen
Hub Café Kitchen is a charming neighbourhood cafe for all-day wining and dining in the heritage-listed corner store overlooking Stewart Place in Ashgrove.
Diners can take a seat in the sleek, white-walled interior with polished floors and buttercup yellow chairs or al fresco in the bright, covered courtyard and partake in a menu that is a blend of contemporary Australian and Italian dishes.
Open every day, Hub Cafe offers breakfast, a brief snappy lunch menu, salads, all day tapas, gourmet pizzas, main courses for lunch or dinner and delish premise-made gelato. In addition there’s a mix of international and Australian beers, a selection of Australian wines, champagne, sparking wine, cider and spirits available.
On the eclectic breakfast menu are Belgian Waffles, Field Mushrooms with tomato basil salsa, Persian feta and free range poached eggs or Moroccan Sausages with ratatouille; or the great value Free Range Eggs with bacon, oven-roasted tomato, potato and feta croquette, relish and choice of bread while for something light there’s House Toast (choose from sourdough, rye or Turkish) with spreads board.
For lunch choose from grilled chicken on rye, eye fillet on sourdough or the Hub twist on a burger: a delicious sourdough burger sanger with fresh salad and juicy beef patty. Or try one of the salads like beetroot and Persian fetta, Bocconcini or Caesar.
The share plates/tapas list is extensive and includes the recommended halloumi mint and fetta fritters, crispy battered prawns, smoky BBQ chicken wings, trio of dips, rustic bruschetta and Pork San Bay Chow, all perfect for kicking back in the courtyard on a sunny afternoon with a glass of wine.
Thin-crust pizzas from the purpose-built mosaic oven are a mix of traditional Italian (margarita and Napoli), New Yorker (sopressa, mushroom, Spanish onion and mozzarella) or gourmet like Salmon Bianco.
And if after a main, offerings include Braised Pork Cutlets, Veal Canneloni, Chicken Saltimbocca.
Then for afters it’s hard to go past the house-made gelati, which comes in Double Choc, Fig Marscapone, Lemon, Vanilla or Chocolate Macadamia flavours (also the base for Hub Café’s milkshakes).
