Northshore Harbour Cafe
Northshore Harbour Café is the jewel in the crown of Hamilton’s Northshore precinct – a splendid copper-backed dining pavilion surrounded by lawn, history, art, recreational activities and a tiny beach.
Arriving here is a bit like stumbling across an oasis in the dessert - after streets of construction sites and industrial wasteland, the wharf grunge is replaced with landscaped streets that reach to the waterfront where the Northshore Harbour Café opens up as an exclusive find.
Its airy contemporary design makes the most of river views and breezes, with industrial touches inside and out that give a nod to its working past. Around the café are manicured grass hillocks and sandstone paths scripted with the area’s history.
Food at Northshore Harbour is a cut above your average café tying in with its waterfront setting. A team of dedicated chefs prepare breakfasts and lunches that alone are worth making a visit here. Attention to detail is paramount at Northshore Harbour, from the delicately garnished meals to the table water Gurgle Jugs used.
The inclusive menu has something for everyone, proudly serving the freshest dishes prepared to order, sourced from local producers; with extensive options for the cafe's gluten free, vegetarian and vegan customers. Catering for differing groups of people is not a challenge, but seen as an opportunity to learn and grow in offerings. The chefs curate a seasonal menu offering a unique style to urban classics. The on-site chefs create meals that will have your guests talking for years to come.
Rolling on from an 11:15am finish for breakfast comes the highly recommended lunch menu. The lunch menu has flair in its style from house made bacon aioli for the burgers to a daily changing Market Fish based on current seasonal produce. Simple in concept but never sacrificing on flavour. The cafe's regular customers are treated like family and never get tired of the menu, especially with daily updated specials designed to keep it fresh and lively.
On the kids menu (one of the best around) for breakfast there’s toasted English muffin, pancakes with maple syrup and ice-cream or sausage and scrambled eggs, and for lunch there’s lamb meatballs and mash, grilled chicken and chips or pasta bolognese.
What's a view without a drink - not much to cheers about! Northshore Harbour's beverage list is perfect no matter the time of the day. Morning tea or coffee, or better yet an afternoon sip. Specialty baristas carefully pour your favourite brew and crafty bartenders are at your call ready with a bottle opener and a glass.
*Overseeing the operation is executive chef Cath Orbell who divides her time between Northshore Harbour's kitchen and working with the events team at Riverlife to develop menus for an array of functions.
