Atticus Finch Cafe
Occupying half a historic weatherboard shop on a prime corner of Latrobe Terrace, and with a graphic designer as one of the owners, Atticus Finch is one of those places which pays attention to detail but keeps it simple and well done.
Seating is mostly on deck along a banquette with tapestry cushions or at trestle tables and inside is a wire basket with some infant’s toys and a magazine spine, faced off with mockingbird wall art by Emily from Frank & Mimi and the partially yellowed pages (including first and last) of various editions of Harper Lee’s classic novel.
A pared back menu of beautifully executed food offers breakfast choices of mixed grain porridge with pear and berries, ‘Regular’ toast with vegemite/peanut paste and jam or ‘Amazing’ toast with toppings like the highly recommended cherry tomato with cucumber, olive, basil and fetta; avocado salsa or satay chilli paste with tamarind and coriander.*
Behind the counter premise-baked sweet stuff like mixed berry and banana muffins, biscotti, cookies and gluten-free chocolate brownies are also available.
Coffee, from Coffee Supreme, is amongst the best in Paddington’s cafe mile with espresso, piccolo, flat white, lattes and babycinos the go, Byron Bay tea for tea drinkers and some interesting cold offerings for those who don’t like it hot: along with classic sodas like sarsaparilla, raspberry and lemon, there’s cherry and pomegranate, celery tonic and Pinot Noir Soda (from NZ’s Marlborough wine co) and Coffee Soda made from Coffee Supreme single origin beans.
Look out for the drip filter brew coffee which is on its way via a bottomless cup.
And on Fridays to Sundays Atticus Finch turns (dog-friendly) bar, with Happy Hour from 4-6pm and a range of delcious alcoholic beverages such as Tequila Mockingbird and Iced Buddha Tea (gin-infused) and craft beers to enjoy with one of the in-house delicious toasties and other savoury snacks.
Need to know: Atticus Finch is a dog-friendly zone with a special deck hook for securing their leashes and a water bowl nearby.
