Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?
Playhouse, QPAC
Queensland Theatre opens their 2022 season with Edward Albee’s electrifying masterpiece Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? at Playhouse, QPAC from February 12-26.
Nick and his wife Honey are new in town and accept an invitation to an intimate afterparty at the home of George and Martha. As the spirits flow and the conversation grows ominous, the four find themselves locked in a cruel sparring match with a hidden agenda. In the small hours of the night, this boozy gathering becomes a frenzy of savage insults, spiteful mind games and wicked humiliations.
By the time the sun rises. all secrets will be laid bare, and none of them will ever be the same again.
Veering between reality and illusion, between hatred and desire, the play shouldn't be funny, but it is - caustic, spectacularly petty and brutal.
Taking on the role of a middle-aged married couple in crisis are Jimi Bani (Our Town, My Name Is Jimi) as George and AACTA Award-winning actress Susan Prior (Suddenly Last Summer, Riflemind) as Martha, who are joined on stage by Rashidi Edward and Juanita Navas-Nguyen.
Directed by Margaret Harvey, audiences will be enthralled with her fresh vision of the classic, offering a dangerously funny portrait of a marriage in crisis.
