Sol Natural Foods Cafe Bakery Pizzeria
Fortitude Valley
SOL NATURAL FOODS HAS PERMANENTLY CLOSED IN FORTITUDE VALLEY.
Sol Natural Foods is an industrial chic café, bakery and pizzeria, craft beer and wine bar together under one lofty roof on a jacaranda tree-shaded Fortitude Valley street corner.
Inside the sleek modern space where raw materials rule, chocolate brown couches face off under a concrete feature wall, a giant sunflower mural lights up the rear by the beer and wine servery and dining furniture is a mix of vintage industrial stools, upturned drums, metal chairs and recycled timber tables.
Fresh baked daily loaves are there to take away and a food counter is full all of the usual heathy baked sweet and savoury goodies Sol is known and loved for – friands and Florentines, muffins, brownies, slices, frittatas, croissants, raw cakes and tarts, samosas, Chia pudding and vegetable turnovers.
Diners can order from here (a daily blackboard menu names the specials and filings) or the a la carte menu for breakfast, nibbles, lunch and dinner.
Breakfast is served daily until 2 and is a vegetarian’s delight. Hot choices include organic eggs poached, scrambled or fried with: savoury mince and feta, butter beans and truss tomatoes or mushrooms and goats cheese, as well as omelette with onion jam, roast capsicum and herbs.
For something lighter there’s toasted muesli with fruit and yoghurt, banana bread or signature organic sour dough with butter and The Grainge preserves (with jars also available to purchase).
Lunch and dinner offerings are available from 12 till late, starting with Nibbles like Rosemary assorted nuts, house dips with warmed pumpkin sour dough or Sol’s antipasto plate.
Pizzas* are the main staple and are delicious and thin crusted with a mix of traditional and creative gourmet toppings, ranging from the simple Basic But Not – fior de latte, heirloom tomatoes, parmesan and basil and classic No. 8 – peperoni, olives, capsicum and mozzarella to the Mejico – black bean corn salsa, jalapeno and mozzarella topped with guacamole, sour cream and corn chips. There’s also a Chicken Lovers and a revamped Hawaiian – Old Skool.
Meantime, house salads are available as sides or light meals and for those who want to finish with something sweet there’s a Dessert Pizza, aptly named Yolo.
Starting with the non-alcoholic, Coffee at Sol is organic from local Bare Bones roastery, loose leaf teas are from Tea Lady and cold stuff (served till 4) includes iced latte, chocolate, almond mylk and coyo based fruit smoothies.
Patrons can enjoy a craft beer or organic wine with their food from midday onwards, with a decent selection of beers and wine from boutique wineries Tamburlaine, Bress, Spring Seed or Spinifex Miette by the bottle or glass.
And for those who want to settle in for a couple of hours Sol has shelves of magazines, UNO cards and a handful of table games.
*Pizzas are available as takeaways.
Need to know: Sol will be open nights from Friday 12 Sept
