Queensland’s largest open-air shopping precinct, Queen Street Mall is celebrating its 40th birthday with a big street party on Friday, August 26!
On 9 August 1982, Queen Street Mall opened as a pedestrian mall to coincide with the Commonwealth Games and since then, it has continued to evolve and today it is home to over 500 retailers and six major shopping centres.

To celebrate the milestone, Queen Street Mall is hosting the Street Party on August 26 and everyone is welcome to come along and enjoy the party. From night markets to a pop-up champagne bar, late night shopping and fashion runway shows – there’s something for everyone!
Headlining the entertainment, outside the Wintergarden, are Aussie music icons Kate Ceberano (from 5.30pm) and Vanessa Amorosi (from 6.30pm).
See the latest and upcoming spring trends from your favourite Queen Street Mall retailers during a fashion runway show on Friday 26 August. The fashion runway will take place at the Queen Street Mall Arch (opposite King George Square) and will occur at these times throughout the evening - 5pm, 6pm, 7pm.
A stellar line-up of free fashion workshops and beauty masterclasses will showcase the latest spring trends straight off the runway. Featuring some of your favourite Queen Street Mall brands including; Myer, Country Road, sass & bide, Veronika Maine, Cue, Sheike, COS, Issada and more.
Pop the champagne and toast to Queen Street Mall’s 40th birthday at the pop-up champagne bar located at Jimmy’s On The Mall. The Brisbane institution was the very first venue to open in Queen Street Mall and is still as popular today. The celebrations continue all weekend, from 11am-10pm from Friday, August 26 to Sunday, August 28.
The beloved Wednesday Markets are opening for one-night only on Friday August 26 to celebrate Queen Street Mall’s 40th Birthday. Make your way to Reddacliff place to find all your favourite local stalls, from fresh produce to arts & crafts, from 4pm-9pm.
