Peter Hudson: Note to God
Mitchell Fine Art
Sunshine Coast-based artist Peter Hudson’s latest exhibition 'Note to God' is a homage to whomever your creator may be, an appreciative recognition of what we have and all that we should be grateful for, showing at Mitchell Fine Art from September 6, 2022.
The Maleny artist draws largely on contemporary Australian history for inspiration in his art making. For Hudson, regular painting trips and sketching ‘en-plein air’ form an integral part of his art-making process in capturing the spirit or essence of the landscape.
The artist has been particularly influenced by a keen interest in Aboriginal Australia post colonisation. He has spent much time in the North Tanami desert in Gurindji country after becoming intrigued with the Wave Hill walk off.
As such, his paintings and drawings have a deep connection to country and the natural world. Science, mythology, and evolution all blend to create a subject matter particular to him.
Peter Hudson exhibits regularly, has won a number of regional art prizes, and his portrait of Paul Kelly was a finalist in the 2007 Archibald Prize. He is represented in the collections of the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory, National Portrait Gallery and Parliament House in Brisbane.
An Opening Night will be held on Friday, September 9 from 6-8pm, with an Artist Talk in the gallery taking place on Saturday, September 10 from 11am. Both these events are free, no rsvp required.
