Paper Fish

South Bank

Paper Fish is a casual South Bank fish’n’chippery with a retro twist, where patrons can enjoy a beer, wine or frozen ‘cocktail’ with their meal.

From the folks behind South Bank’s iconic Stokehouse Q, Paper Fish brings the freshest of seasonal Australian seafood to the table, offering a delicious contemporary take on old school favourites.

On the menu are 3 choices of fish (barramundi, blue grenadier and salmon), with the option to add a salad (Greek, Caesar or Cucumber – the latter with chilli mint and lime dressing) and box or cone of chips (crinkle cut with secret seasoning), sweet potato fries or the must-try Japanese potato cake (mashed potato, carrot, pea, corn, battered and snap-fried).

Otherwise, there are single boxes such as the Battered Bondi (battered blue grenadier with chips and choice of salad) or Shipsterns (grilled salmon, chips and choice of salad) or boxes to share, including the Burleigh Basket (like a Battered Bondi for 2) or the Massive Manly (Battered Bondi for 4).

Also, highly recommended are the taco boxes (with 3 or 4 tacos), including Bells Fish snap-fried, sliced fish with fresh radish, coriander and lime salsa) and Express Point Prawn (coconut prawns, avocado, cabbage and chipotle mayo).

As for drinks, a house specialty at Paper Fish are the sweet frozen Granitas in flavours of Limonatta, watermelon and mint or pineapple and coconut, which come with the option of adding a shot of gin or vodka, along with the adults-only Blood Orange Granita which comes ready-mixed with Campari.

For beer drinkers, there’s cans of Peroni Red or Balter and for wine drinkers, there is house pinot grigio or rose by the bottle or glass.

In addition, there’s a selection of San Pellegrino sparkling and flavoured mineral water, Aqua panna flat water, coke or coke zero, while patrons can also help themselves to free tap water.

Nice to know – The entire food menu is also available as takeaway. Paper Fish are committed to being eco-friendly, with biodegradable cutlery, napkins and so forth.

Need to know – You’ll find Paper Fish next door to French Martini, on the corner of the laneway that is home to Espresso Garage and across the lane from Gandhi Indian Restaurant.
