To celebrate World Refugee Day, Multicultural Australia presents Our Journey - an evening of multicultural performances plus an exclusive screening of the award-winning film Fremont, at La Boite Theatre on Wednesday, June 19, 2024.

Fremont is an incredible feature film about a former Afghan translator struggling to put her life back together, when a simple message in a cookie brings a moment of revelation.

Fremont, La Boite, Multicultural Australia, Our Journey

Beautiful and troubled 20-something Donya, an Afghan translator who used to work with the U.S. government, has trouble sleeping. She lives by herself in Fremont, California in a building with other Afghan immigrants and often dines alone at a local restaurant watching soap operas.

Her routine changes when she’s promoted to writing the fortunes at a fortune cookie factory in the city. As her fortunes are read by strangers throughout the San Francisco Bay area, Donya’s smouldering longing drives her to send a message out to the world, unsure where it will lead.

This special evening will also feature performances from Brisbane Esai Arts of Tamils and Tarpuy Australia.

Our Journey is a celebration of the spirit and courage of refugees, and his held in partnership with La Boite Theatre, Brisbane City Council, and migrant and refugee communities and individuals who have dedicated their support to Multicultural Australia.
