The classic musical Oklahoma! is coming to Brisbane, performed by Savoyards Musical Theatre Brisbane at the Iona Performing Arts Centre in Wynnum, from June 22 to July 6.

Following their spectacular sell-out seasons of Les Miserables and Chicago, this will be Savoyards' fifth production of the Rodgers & Hammerstein award-winning musical.

Set in American Indian territory in the 1900s, Oklahoma! is a love story about a fetching farm girl, Laurey, and her courtship by two rival suitors, the handsome cowboy Curly McLain and frightening farmhand Jud Fry; with a high-spirited feud between the local farmers and cowboys providing a colourful background.

Savoyards' Artistic Director, Robbie Parkin, is excited to be bringing this iconic musical to stage. “The creative team and I are so looking forward to working on Oklahoma! this year and plan to approach it with the freshness of a 21st century viewpoint, while keeping true to the timeless nature of this musical theatre classic."

The amateur theatre company will no doubt bring their usual flair to this production, which is suitable for the whole family, featuring 42 talented local performers and a live orchestra.

This is definitely one show not to be missed this year!

Nice to know - The luxurious Iona Performing Arts Centre, located in Brisbane's beautiful bayside, provides wheelchair access, raked seating, and has a licensed bar.
