The Meatball Company is the Fox Hotel’s cool New York inspired street food bar on the corner of Fish Lane. The ambient light filled eatery, which is annexed to the Long Bar, is a blend of vintage and contemporary, featuring exposed brick walls, polished concrete floors, shelves of retro hand mincers, blackboard art-covered ceiling and a touch of greenery.

Delicious house made meatballs are designed to share and come in six flavours - the highly recommended classic beef in smoky tomato sauce, Euro style pork, sage and orange with cabbage, chicken and sweet corn with iceberg lettuce, seafood in saffron and tomato broth, vegetarian (green pea and Arborio rice) or lamb, garlic and rosemary.

Sides include house made pasta or potato and garlic puree and those after something lighter can nibble on some Rabbit Food like roast beetroot salad or roasted corn with cucumber salad.

Otherwise there’re charcuterie or cheese platters and for dessert the classic retro ice-cream sandwich.

Along with the meatballs another drawcard here are the house specialty spirits – think caramelized onion or beef jerky infused vodka, while the rest of the bar list features a mix of European wines, old-fashioned drinks that mix it with Bitters and NY Sour and Apple Spritz cocktails.

Need to know: Several things. The Meatball Co is family friendly. Punters in the Long Bar can also order from the meatball menu. And no visit should be without a trip to the second floor to check out the artists at work at the quirky Fish Lane Studios.
