The mammoth bi-annual Lifeline Bookfest sees bibliophiles and bargain hunters descend on the Brisbane Convention Centre bearing suitcases, shopping trolleys and re-usable bags which they fill to the brim with pre-loved books on every subject ever invented. And it's back from June 4-12, 2022.
For here, at Queensland's biggest second-hand book sale, are 22 semi-trailers worth of books spread across 4.5km of tables in two massive halls and prices start at just $2.50.
Whether or not you go on to read them all is another matter but who cares if the history of the Mephisto war tank or horny backed toad costs $2.50? Besides which they can always be donated to a good cause like next year's fair.
But it's not all obscurity – get here early, dig deep and search long and it's possible to unearth out-of-print gems nobody thought were still in existence. They even have the likes of rare and retro sheet music.
The genres are all sorted, with signs clearly depicting their category - so it's easy to find what you're looking for.
Need to know - The organisers do not have any bags on hand for purchases so make sure you BYO.
Nice to know - there are cafe facilities within the hall, so you can have a cuppa and something to eat while you sort through your collection before heading to the checkout.
Opening hours - Sat Jun 4 - 7.30am-6pm; Sun Jun 5- Thu Jun 9 8.30am-6pm; Fri Jun 10 8.30am-9pm; Sat Jun 11 - Sun Jun 12 8.30am-6pm.
