Jon Cleary

Brisbane Powerhouse

Grammy award-winning musical tour de force, Jon Cleary brings the sound of New Orleans to the Brisbane Powerhouse, together with his long time band The Absolute Monster Gentlemen, on October 11.

One of music's great anomalies, Jon Cleary is an Englishman from Kent who has become a New Orleans music legend after inhabiting the Crescent City for some 30 years. During that time he has graced stages, shared rooms and gained respect from everyone from Allen Toussaint to Tom Jones, Dr. John to Bonnie Raitt, Fats Domino to Eric Clapton, Taj Mahal to BB King, even Brian May to D’Angelo.

After an incredible turn at the famed New Orleans Jazz Fest in April this year, the musician has taken to the stages of North American and Europe and now it's Australia's turn to witness Jon and his crew in action.

“Cleary can be an absolute monster on his own, but Cleary’s full combo R&B is as broad, deep and roiling as the Mississippi River, the combined swinging product of local keyboard tradition, Cleary’s vocal-songwriting flair for moody Seventies soul and the spunky-Meters roll of his Gentlemen” David Fricke, Rolling Stone.
