Extra Ordinary Day
State Library of Queensland
It's going to be an Extra Ordinary Day on Saturday, June 18, 2022 when State Library of Queensland celebrates its 120th birthday with a party fit for the public, including heaps of free, fun activities and events for all ages!
Ever wondered what goes on behind the scenes at State Library or how clever curators create exciting exhibitions? There’s a number of interesting, expert-led tours including an artist tour of First Nations art throughout the Library with Quandamooka artist Megan Cope, step into a wild, wacky and whimsical world on The Great & Grand Rumpus Curator Tour, or don white gloves to get hands-on with some of the rarely seen treasures of State Library's remarkable collections.
Want to try something new or be part of something out-of-the-ordinary? The curious and the creative can learn how to weave an object using banana leaves, screen print a memento from State Library's 120th year, and - it's not a party until you have a party hat - join Reverse Garbage to create a crinkly, sparkly, spectacular celebration headpiece.
What's a party without entertainment? Be prepared to be entertained and equally surprised with random bouts of music, dance, unexpected characters and stories, as well as scheduled performances that are not to be missed, including Matt Hsu's Obscure Orchestra featuring Tenzin Cheogyal.
And for the young and young at heart, there's a fun-filled schedule of events. Be part of the singing, playing, making and rhyming with the littlest people in your life with All Day Play in The Corner and Story Picnic with Nadia Sunde on the Queensland Terrace.
