Botanica 2019

City Botanic Gardens

Botanica - Contemporary art outside will transform Brisbane’s riverside City Botanic Gardens into a world-class outdoor art gallery for 10 days from May 10.

Now in its second year, this temporary open-air exhibition will feature a stunning series of art installations set within Brisbane's beautiful heritage gardens.

This year's living outdoor art gallery will feature works by leading contemporary Australian artists, architects and designers. Highlights include Shattered, designed by City Botanic Gardens staff using traditional plantings and species, Plant Nation by Heidi Axelsen and Hugo Moline (MAPA) which explores plants and their role in marking territory, and Vulgaris by Ross Manning, an immersive installation which reveals a hidden sonic landscape within the gardens.

Visitors to the iconic City Botanic Gardens will be captivated by curious and engaging spaces, with works of art creatively installed in garden spaces, immersed within trees, integrated into garden beds and water-based installations.

Enjoy artworks after dark, with music, live performances and food trucks from Friday to Sunday nights from 5pm. Linger a bit longer in the gardens for Friday night up-late sessions with extended hours until 10pm.

Botanica is one of thousands of festivals, markets and events Brisbane City Council helps to deliver each year, giving residents and visitors more to see and do in a clean, green Brisbane.

Need to know - Botanica is on in the City Botanic Gardens 10-19 May, featuring 12 temporary art installations. Visit 10am-8pm daily or check out the live music, food trucks and more at Botanica up-late (Fridays until 10pm).
