Poetry, film, orchestra and dance combine in The Bigger Picture by Sachém and Matt Hsu's Obsure Orchestra, a special Reconciliation Week performance at QPAC on Wednesday, May 31, 2023.

The Bigger Picture highlights the Aboriginal and African American rapper, singer and poet Sachém’s contemporary sound, weaving in theatrical elements of dance, visual projection and film to bring to life a hard-hitting, self-empowered theatre show that celebrates First Nations lives.

Sachém, The Bigger Picture, QPAC

Since the release of his debut EP, Part of the Picture, in 2021, Sachém has toured extensively in Australia and the US, developing this new body of work that explores and dissects the reasons, motivations, and stories behind his creative output.

The Bigger Picture is the second chapter; a compelling, must-see show theatre show that dives deep into stories of disconnection and reconnection.

Joining Sachém for this multi-faceted production is the award-winning 22-piece Matt Hsu’s Obscure Orchestra. Beginning as Matt’s solo multi-instrumental offbeat tinkering, Matt Hsu’s Obscure Orchestra has grown to one of Australia’s most respected ensembles, known for its community-minded inclusivity, comprising of BIPOC, First Nations, disabled, non-binary and trans artists.

Want to engage with the artists and this hybrid-style theatre show on a deeper level? A pre-concert Q&A will take place in the QPAC Concert Hall foyer with Sachém, Dr Matt Hsu, Creative Producer Nicole Reilly and other artists and creatives involved with the making of The Bigger Picture. This Q&A is free for ticket holders of the performance.
