Join filmmakers and film lovers for one of Queensland’s biggest annual celebrations of independent cinema when Brisbane’s own Australia Independent Film Festival |AIFF| returns to Metro Arts, West End bigger and better than ever, from September 30 to October 1, 2022.
Known internationally, AIFF showcases the very best Australian and international short films, documentaries, animations, experimental films and more from Brisbane, Australia and across the world.
AIFF gives filmmakers and film lovers a chance to watch amazing films that you generally do not see anywhere but at a film festival, mingle with like-minded individuals, and enjoy networking opportunities.
Session One: Opening Night – Around the World 1
AIFF 2022 begins with a bang! Join the opening night celebrations as you start your film journey in Queensland, travel around the world with some of the best international shorts, and finish here at home again. The bar will be stocked, so grab a drink, sit back and enjoy traversing the globe with a stellar night of films. Friday 30 September. Screening 19:00 ~ 21:00
Session Two: Keeping it Real
Documentary lovers - this session is for you. Settle in for an afternoon dedicated to some amazing true stories sourced from all corners of the world, as well as a few from our own backyard. From life in a Senegalese fishing village to a warship-turned artificial Queensland reef, you don’t want to miss this opportunity to see some unique stories on screen. Saturday 01 October. Screening 13:00 ~ 15:00.
Session Three: Around the World 2
It’s time to travel the world again with AIFF22’s last session of international shorts. A mix of styles, genres, and some of the teams’ favourite short films. Saturday 01 October. Screening 16:00 ~18:00
Session Four: Home Grown - Australian Shorts and award ceremony.
The night of nights is all about Australia. Last but definitely not least, AIFF22 presents some of the very best shorts from across this great land. After a session full of thought-provoking stories, there'll be a celebration of the best of the best at the awards ceremony, before heading to The Boundary Hotel to send off AIFF22 in style. Saturday 01 October. Screening & Awards 19:00 ~ 21:30
Good to know - Metro Arts is a licensed venue. Session time length is approximate. Films may contain some coarse language, implied drug usage, nudity and or some mild violence and are recommended for a mature aged audience.
Need to know - Adult tickets are just $15 plus booking fee. Tickets are available online, over the phone (07) 3002 7100 (during business hours 10am – 4pm weekdays) and at the box office and bar one hour prior to the event (availability permitting).
