APT9 Summer Festival
QAGOMA
The APT9 Summer Festival at QAGOMA is a fabulous 3-day family friendly event with mindfulness yoga to start the day, art-making workshops, live music, performances, storytelling, film screenings and more.
Each day of the festival will start with Calm Living Yoga, followed by activities ranging from stitching, storytelling and weaving to Let’s Make Noise! tours through APT9 with musician John Patterson (of The Grates), and interactive Bollywood-inspired dance shows for children and families.
Films from the Asia Pacific will screen daily at GOMA’s Australian Cinémathèque and local children’s author and poet Dr June Perkins and members of Brisbane’s Kiribati community will read stories under the huge fig tree next to the river at the GOMA Cafe Bistro.
Festival audiences can also discover claymation with APT9 artist Souliya Phoumivong (Laos), learn more about the world of bees from Bee One Third Neighbourhood Honey, participate in drop-in workshops with The Stitchery Collective and experience weaving and dance performances by women from Brisbane’s Bougainville Community Group Inc.
A highlight for adults in the jam packed, all-ages festival will be the return of QAGOMA’s signature Up Late program from 6.00-10.00pm on Friday 19 January. Featuring live music from Ngaiire (Sydney), Bottlesmoker (Indonesia) and May Lyn (Brisbane), APT9 Up Late will also showcase DJs Black Amex, Ben Chiu from A Love Supreme and Dameeeela, as well as interactive music tours though the exhibition and performances by Radha La Bia and Dance Masala.
Need to know - All activities and events are free except for Up Late, whihc has an entry charge plus extra for bar drinks.
