Troop Train Sunday

Swanbank

The Queensland Pioneer Steam Railway turns back the clock to the war years this weekend, recreating the ‘Troop Trains’ in conjunction with the Ipswich ‘Centenary of Anzac’ Committee.

The ‘Troop Trains’ were special trains that moved men and materials for the World Wars, working their way from country to city and from the Bight to the Cape.

For this special one-off occasion the locomotives, carriages and stations will be transformed back to their wartime appearance and the Troops will again ride the rails, with visitors having the chance to ride with them and share the experience.

The trip also includes an open day at Swanbank Station, with military displays, vehicles (including the mega World War I steam roller) and re-enactments on the banks of Swanbank Lake.

From the dances that troops danced as they mingled with the ladies to drills at the race horse paddock, light horse and camel squadrons, there’ll be plenty to see and do for everyone.

Nice to know -  Visitors are encouraged to come dressed in either 1910 or 1940 costumes. Food will be available on site.

Need to know – Troop trains depart both Racecourse station and Swanbank Station at regular intervals throughout the day. BOOK HERE
