Topology: Tortured Remixes Launch
Brisbane Powerhouse
One of Brisbane’s most exciting musical outfits, Topology, are launching their new ‘mixtape’ album – Tortured Remixes – at Vulcana Womens Circus for Anywhere Theatre Festival, Brisbane Powerhouse, 11 & 12 May.
The album is described as ‘pop filtered through twisted musical minds’ and also signals the 20th anniversary for the Brisbane quintet, with popular melodies bent, stretched, scrambled and ‘tortured’- possibly beyond recognition – by Topology’s composers John Babbage (saxophone), Robert Davidson (bass) and Bernard Hoey (viola). Other band members are Christa Powell on violin and Therese Milanovic on piano.
This fourteenth release from the band – which often combines genres as diverse as chamber music, pop, jazz, electronica, orchestral and progressive rock – is a fitting anniversary celebration with the reimagined works featuring complex arrangements, well-known solos expanded into full-length chamber pieces, and other innovative methods. You’ll hear songs in a whole new way from The Saints, MC Hammer, The Beatles, Stevie Wright, Beyoncé, Cold Chisel and more.
You can see Topology in action as they perform pieces from Tortured Remixes and will see why they’ve recently been a smash hit at the Lincoln Center in New York City with Dead Puppet Society, and have an ARIA nomination and APRA Art Music Award for Excellence in Music Education. It’s one not to be missed!
Need to know - The launch is being held at Vulcana Womens Circus's digs in the Ground Level Stores Building of the Brisbane Powerhouse.
