Brisbane audiences hungry for thrilling and intriguing drama should get themselves along to Joanna Murray-Smith’s play, Switzerland, at QTC's Bille Brown Studio.
The award-winning playwright writes about the fabulously successful author, Patricia Highsmith – author of The Talented Mr. Ripley, Strangers on a Train and The Price Salt (made into the film, Carol, recently) – in the last weeks of her life, with an inventive and fascinating premise.
Brought to life by the Queensland Theatre Company, Switzerland sees Highsmith living an isolated life in the Swiss Alps amongst her collection of books and antique weapons, and knowing she’s facing the end of her life.
Then a young emissary from her publisher arrives wanting a contract for one more book. Highsmith realises she must write one final outing about her serial killer character, Tom Ripley. But unfortunately the words don’t come easily to her and she’s faced with a crisis.
This quite dark piece stars acclaimed actor and director, Andrea Moor, as the fascinating Highsmith, and she’ll be joined on stage by Matthew Backer, who played Frankie Valli in Jersey Boys in 2011. Paige Rattray is the director, having brought Bombshells, Honour, and The Female of the Species to audiences previously.
This is sure to be a beauty so book your tickets now!
