White Canvas Gallery

Swim is a whimsical exhibition that evokes the sea within a series of beautiful and delicate sculptures and paintings, at the Valley's White Canvas Gallery.

Brisbane based artist Conny Van Lint has created the extraordinary self-supporting life size sculptures by using the intricate technique of interlinking with a spool of wire and a pair of pliers.

Connie Lint's floating sculptures hanging from the ceiling inside her house.

As a result the sculptures, which were inspired by traditional crab pots and fish catchers, appear to swim, float and jump in a series of delicate transparent ever-changing images.

Meanwhile the uplifting oil paintings evolved from a series of underwater photos taken during family holidays, resulting in compositions that focus on light, form, beauty and the joyous feeling of being underwater.

As Conny explains it, “When I swim I feel weightless, unwatched, quiet, soft and free. My senses are distorted and I’m free to explore my thoughts and feelings to myself, by myself, completely selfish.”

Born in Holland in 1966, she migrated to North Queensland at age 16 and gained a Bachelor of Arts at the Queensland College of Art and a Diploma of Secondary Teaching at the University of Western Sydney. Her nomadic lifestyle has nurtured an open mind towards experimentation with different media and with self-expression at its core.
