Stuart Ringholt: Kraft
Ima
There are art exhibitions, then there is Stuart Ringholt’s Kraft.
The Melbourne artist is renowned for taking audiences on mind-blowing journeys, such as naturist jaunts and anger workshops and participatory workshops that invoke laughter, fear, embarrassment and love.
And survey exhibition Kraft is no exception, with its main feature his latest commission Club Purple, a perpetual nude daytime disco.
The other new commission is Untitled (Clock) in which visitors find themselves confronted by time - alone in a gallery with a giant askew clock and both are supported by a series of drawings, collages, sculptures and videos scattered throughout the other 2 gallery rooms.
Club Purple is set to become the defining exhibit of Kraft, one that invites and relies on audience participation and that tests the limits of those who choose not to join in. The disco will have many guises throughout the exhibition, from singles and group days to ‘ladies days’ and an endless choice of backing playlist.
Need to know: IMA is closed on public holidays.
