Singout Sista - Women Of The World Concert
Qld Multicultural Centre
SingOut Sista - Women of the World Concert - is a special musical event presented by BEMAC and QMusic to celebrate Queensland Women's Week, with the concert featuring six exceptional musical artists at the Queensland Multicultural Centre on Friday, 11 March.
After collaborating in a rehearsal room for a few days, the women will present this special showcase that celebrates women from all cultural backgrounds. It's an amazing line-up, so here are a few details about what you can expect to see:
Roz Pappalardo has spent the last 20 years as one half of the much-loved duo, Women in Docs, favourites at gatherings such as Woodford Folk Festival and the Gympie Muster. She plays slide guitar, upright bass, drums, keyboard, a vintage Fender guitar, and sings up a storm.
Ruth Ghee, a Torres Strait, South Sea Islands and Aboriginal woman, has been involved in several areas within the performing arts, music and entertainment industry, including being part of the AWGIE Award-winning Children's Theatre Production, Kese Solwata. She's currently involved in directing community choirs from the Aboriginal Centre for the Performing Arts in Brisbane.
Toni Janke is a self-taught indigenous singer and songwriter who has recorded three original CDs - Hearts Speak Out, The Brink, and Jewel of the North. Her music won her a Deadly Award for Best Female Artist in 2004.
Jackie Marshall has twice been shortlisted for the Australian Music Prize, has performed for the Women In Voice concert series, and sung a duet with Men At Work singer, Colin Hay, on the SBS music quiz show, RocKwiz. She's gained a name for herself performing in Europe, the U.K. and Japan.
Melody Jettoo is a soul singer of South African heritage who thrills audiences with her warm voice and who's recently been invited to sing as part of Xavier Rudd's United Nations.
Last but not least, there's Sudha Manian, an acclaimed sitar player who started her Hindustani classical sitar training at 11 under Sri G.V. Sreeramulu in Hyderabad, India.
