Rio Tinto Ride To

Conquer Cancer

Brisbane, get your lycras and bum padding out for a good cause and join in the Rio Tinto Ride to Conquer Cancer.

The statistics show that all of us have been affected by cancer in some way – either directly or through someone we know – so the proceeds from the ride will hopefully help us get to a time in the future where terminal cancer is a distant memory.

Ride To Conquer Cancer Brisbane 2015

The event is in its fifth year, with The Ride benefitting QIMR Berghofer Medical Research Institute. If you’re not the fittest, you’d better start getting into cycling shape if you wish to be part of this two-day, 200 km-plus ride to raise crucial funds to support critical cancer research projects such as personalised cancer immunotherapy treatments. What better motivation could there be?

This year will see a new picturesque route with fewer hills than ever before, with riders leaving from the University of Queensland St. Lucia campus, then journeying through some gorgeous scenery to Canungra. You’ll be supported along the way with helpful crew, volunteers, and bike techs. Every 20-25 kms there’ll be a pit stop with those all-important portaloos, snacks, water, electrolytes and bike and medical assistance should you require it. There’ll also be a nutritious lunch at the halfway point. And let’s not forget the cheering stations where you can get much-needed enthusiastic encouragement to help you reach your goal of helping cancer research.

Ride To Conquer Cancer Brisbane 2015

Day One concludes at the Canungra Sports and Recreation Grounds at the foot of beautiful Tamborine Mountain, where riders will be treated to a night of entertainment, socialising, dinner and drinks. After an overnight camp-out under the stars, Day Two heads through more exquisite landscape with amazing views until riders end up back at U.Q. St. Lucia to feel the thrill of crossing the finishing line as onlookers, friends and family cheer them on.

This Ride to Conquer Cancer is always very well supported and you can expect to be in the company of over one thousand other riders. Since 2011, $17.9 million has been raised for the QIMR Berghofer Medical Research Institute, making the ride Queensland’s largest fundraising event series.
