The opening weekend of The Photograph and Australia, the new QAG exhibition which chronicles the story of Australia from the 1840s to today, features insightful talks, events and tours.

For anyone who’s interested in delving deeper into this fascinating major exhibition derived from dozens of collections and organized by the Art Gallery of New South Wales, here’s the chance to engage with the curators, artists and experts behind it.

The 2 day program is as follows:

Saturday

Illustrated Talk – Get the ultimate introduction to the works from exhibition curator (and Senior Creator of Photographs from Art Gallery NSW) Judy Annear, who also shares her insights into the development of the exhibition. Lecture Theatre, QAG 11am Free. No bookings req.

Curators’ Conversation Tour – Exhibition curator Judy Annear joins with QAGOMA’s Michael Hawker (Associate Curator, Australian Art) for an informal exhibition tour to introduce key themes and ideas. Exhibition Spaces, QAG, 1pm. Valid Exhibition Entry ticket req.

Artists in Conversation – Exhibiting artists Rowan McNaught and Patrick Pound come together to reveal insights into their collaborative installation, The Compound Lens Project (2014-15). Exhibition Spaces, QAG, 2pm. Valid Exhibition Entry ticket req.

Beyond the Lens – In the first in a series of Monthly Talks that go beyond the lens to explore key themes and ideas in the exhibition, Michael Aird (contributor, freelance researcher, curator and writer) talks about early Queensland photographers and their subjects.
