Nice Work If You Can Get It
Iona Pac
One of Brisbane’s premier amateur theatre companies, Savoyards Musical Comedy Society, bring Gershwin’s Nice Work If You Can Get It to life at the Iona Performing Arts Centre, Lindum.
Here's a rare chance to hear the titular song or other George and Ira Gershwin classics like Let’s Call the Whole Thing Off, Fascinating Rhythm or Someone To Watch Over Me. And it’s bound to be a great night of musical theatre with Savoyards presenting the new Broadway musical which won two Tony Awards in 2012 and was inspired by material by Guy Bolton and P.G. Wodehouse. The book is by Joe Dipietro and Director for the production is Sheryl-Lee Secomb.
Set in 1927 at the height of the Prohibition era, Nice Work If You Can Get It is a story about wealthy playboy, Jimmy Winter, and rough female bootlegger, Billie Bendix, with plenty of fun antics, lashings of tap dancing, and glitzy costumes galore.
In total, 28 performers will grace the stage, with Clay English and Emily Vascotto taking the lead roles of Jimmy and Billie respectively. Grace Clarke plays Jimmy’s fiancé, Eileen Evergreen, with Warren James and Kyle Fenwick playing bootleggers Cookie McGee and Duke Mahoney.
Nice to know - The musical is suitable for the whole family. All ages welcome.
