Much Ado About Nothing

Playhouse Qpac

One of William Shakespeare’s greatest works, Much Ado About Nothing, is re-imagined on the Playhouse stage by QTC, marking the 400th anniversary of the death of the bard in fitting style.

The world’s original romantic comedy tells the tale of two pairs of very different lovers, driven by underlying timeless themes of the battle of the sexes and the freedom of individuals and in this production it is given a 21st century cocktail-sipping twist.

Under the moon and stars in a lush 5-star island resort-like setting, a group of locals fall in love while spontaneously tearing each other apart and indulging in witty banter to the sounds of a brilliant trip-hop groove.

Directed by acclaimed powerhouse Jason Klarwein (who has worked with globally renowned Shakespearean director Michael Attenborough) and starring a cast of 11 outstanding actors, Much Ado About Nothing is also a company-first collaboration with maestro Gordon Hamilton.

Famous for composing orchestral experiences with new music leaders, Gordon Hamilton has created the music for this production (including his own version of chart topper Heya by OutKast) while directing 3 of Brisbane’s best vocalists in a stunning live acapella mixing classical, modern, beatbox and more.

Meanwhile the carefully curated cast is a who’s who of leading local talents, including Ellen Bailey (Oedipus Doesn't Live Here Anymore, Macbeth), Liz Buchanan (Grimm Tales), Mark Conaghan (Absurd Person Singular, The Venetian Twins), Patrick Dwyer (La Boite's Hedonism’s Second Album), Hayden Jones (Shock Therapy Production’s The Pillowman), Christen O’Leary (Ladies in Black, Gloria, End of the Rainbow), Tama Matheson (The Odd Couple, Macbeth), Kathryn McIntyre (Ladies in Black), Hugh Parker (Black Books, I’m Alan Partridge, The Seagull, Brisbane), Bryan Probets (The Odd Couple, Australia Day)  and Megan Shorey (QPDA 2014-2015 finalist - One in Seven).
