Ladies Night
Gardens Theatre
Before The Full Monty, there was Ladies Night, New Zealand’s most successful play of all time, about four unemployed guys, who, motivated by “The Chippendales’, form a stripping act to earn some fast cash.
Written in 1987 by Anthony McCarten and Stephen Sinclair, Ladies Night has been translated into twelve languages, completed eight sell-out tours of Britain and the UK and, in 2001, took out The Moliere Prize, France’s premier theatre award for comedy.
Now the cheeky, hilarious play is back in Brisbane for just 2 nights at the Gardens Theatre, with a soundtrack of familiar retro tunes – ‘Hot Stuff’, ‘Bad to the Bone’, ‘Wild Thing’ and ‘Smooth Operator’ to name a few.
The unlikely lads in this show are played by Dale Pengelly (Boy from Oz) Steven Tandy (The Sullivan’s) Andrew Lawson (X Factor) , with Alli Pope (Calendar Girls) as the slightly shop-worn, dance instructor with a heart-of-gold that teaches the boys what women really want from a male stripper and how to deliver it.
Ladies Night makes for the perfect hens night out or just an excuse to get together with the girls for some light-hearted fun and a guaranteed giggle.
