The King & I
Iona Performing Arts Centre
The beloved musical, The King and I, gets the Savoyards Musical Comedy Society treatment from 17 June – 1 July at Iona Performing Arts Centre, Lindum.
The popular amateur theatre company always gives audiences great value for money, as well as involving the local community of Brisbane’s bayside Wynnum area in their productions.
The visually beautiful musical set in Bangkok and made famous in the movie starring Deborah Kerr and Yul Brynner, is of course brimming with some great Rodgers and Hammerstein songs (Hello Young Lovers, Shall We Dance?, Getting To Know You). It’s a story of the cultures of the East meeting the cultures of the West, and is a great night of theatre for the whole family.
Playing the King of Siam is Reindert Toia, while Miranda Selwood plays the pivotal romantic female lead role of Anna Leonowens. Other notable roles are Vanessa Wainwright as Lady Thiang, Dani Heraud as Tuptim, and Stephen Smith as Lun Tah.
There’ll also be a cast of 14 children which alternates for performances, plus music provided by a live orchestra. Johanna Toia directs while Musical Director is Benjamin Tubb-Hearne and Choreographer is Carlie McEachern.
