Jason Byrne
Brisbane Powerhouse
Riotous Irish funnyman, Jason Byrne, brings his brand of lunacy to The Brisbane Comedy Festival with his show, Propped Up, at Brisbane Powerhouse from 23 – 26 March.
Anyone who’s seen the chaotic Byrne in action on stage knows that anything is possible, as he lurches from one weird and wonderful scenario to another. The Edinburgh Fringe Festival’s biggest selling comedian, he’s definitely one of a kind with his ridiculous sense of humour and strange props. Last time he was here in 2015, he involved audience members in hijinks that featured false chins, giant ducks, a mouse with a moustache, portable igloos, mops for legs and more.
Propped Up is Byrne’s brand new show and it’s sure to be as high-powered, bizarre and hilarious as his previous ones. The UK’s Evening Standard called him “unmissable”, while the Edinburgh Evening News said, “Watching a new Jason Byrne show is a bit like witnessing lightning in a bottle.”
You might have seen Byrne on TV in shows such as Live at the Apollo, and Network Ten’s Melbourne International Comedy Festival Oxfam and The Great Debate. He’s also had a radio sitcom on BBC2 called Father Figure as well as The Jason Byrne Show, which won the Sony Radio Gold Award for Best Comedy in 2011. His first book, a memoir, has now been released, titled Adventures of a Wonky-Eyed Boy: The Short Arse Years.
