Harry Shearer & Judith Owen: This Infernal Racket

Brisbane Powerhouse

An eclectic bunch of comedic and musical goodies awaits audiences when Harry Shearer and Judith Owen team up in This Infernal Racket at Brisbane Powerhouse, Sunday 12 June.

The voice behind The Simpsons’ Mr Burns and bass player extraordinaire Derek Smalls from Spinal Tap, the hilarious Shearer is renowned for making people laugh until their sides split. Welsh singer-songwriter, Owen, has been called the “heir to Joni Mitchell”, has released 10 albums and is the co-creator with Ruby Wax of the London West End hit, Losing It.

Harry Shearer and Judith Owen

Together, this real-life couple bring Brisbane audiences original songs, strange and unusual reinterpretations of classic heavy rock songs, and you guessed it – a Spinal Tap song or two! Fame, celebrities, politics, religion and relationships are all covered, so what more could you want?

As part of the Queensland Cabaret Festival, This Infernal Racket is sure to be a crowd pleaser. Shearer says the premise of the title is that “both of us have a lot of noise going on in our heads, of very different varieties. We both deal with that racket by transforming it into music. Mine are satirical, hers [Owen’s] are emotional and witty, so we basically are exploring those differences and commonalities.”
