Glory Box: La Revolucion
Brisbane Powerhouse
Glory Box, the most awarded underground cabaret in the world, is headlining the spectacular Wonderland festival at the Brisbane Powerhouse in December.
Brisbane audiences are in for a real treat with Glory Box, which has defined and redefined cabaret for a global audience by turning cabaret, circus, burlesque, dance and live art on its head, and is the first Australian work to be invited to some of the world’s most celebrated art festivals.
Finucane and Smith’s Glory Box: La Revolucion, which comes to Brisbane fresh from their smash-hit South American tour, features a darkly glamorous coterie of beyond-burlesque beauties, smokin’ songbirds, daring dancers and smokin’ songbirds.
Creator Moira Finucane describes the show as ‘variety with vengeance’ and in lieu of the old-fashioned politely glamorous showgirls the audiences should expect ‘electrifying routines by gender-defying divas’ and ‘a set of avant garde and radical temptresses who throw themselves into the show as they would a rock concert.’
Finucane and co-creator Jackie Smith have a partnership going back 15 years, during which time they’ve become renowned for their unique cross-genre shows, in which they’ve combined hard core industrial music with early opera, gothic literature with burlesque, circus with drama, feminist performance art with sideshow and fine art with fine food.
Nice to know - Their work, with artists of every genre, has been nominated for 16 international theatre awards and won 13. These include The Patrick White Playwright Award, eight Green Room Awards, Scotland on Sunday’s Hottest Temptation of the Festival Award and a once-in-a-lifetime Contribution to Cabaret Award.
